Bendel Insurance have petitioned the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, over the circumstances surrounding Rangers’ 1-0 victory in their rescheduled matchday nine fixture.
The match was played on Wednesday at the Awka City Stadium, with Chidozie Iwundu scoring the only goal.
Bendel Insurance said the decisive goal was scored while the goalpost’s crossbar was displaced.
According to the petition, the referee did not stop play despite the displacement, which allowed Rangers to proceed to score, and the goal was allowed to stand.
Bendel Insurance argues the referee failed to apply IFAB Law 1.10, which requires play to be stopped when a crossbar becomes displaced or broken until it is repaired or replaced, and said the incident was a misapplication of the Laws of the Game rather than a mere refereeing judgment.
The club stressed the protest is not an accusation of deliberate wrongdoing against the match officials, but a formal challenge over player safety, competitive fairness and the integrity of the NPFL.
Bendel Insurance awaits response from the league's organisers on their complaints.
