Former Super Eagles forward Victor Anichebe is reportedly closing in on a takeover of EFL League One side Bromley, with the ex-Everton striker leading a wealthy African consortium in advanced negotiations, according to talkSPORT.
Anichebe, 38, is said to be in talks with Bromley owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves, and both sides are working toward finalising an agreement. The move would represent the former Nigeria international’s first major step into football club ownership.
The potential takeover comes as Bromley endure a difficult first season in League One. The South London club climbed from the National League to League Two in 2024 and then won promotion to League One at the end of last season, but their third-tier campaign has been a struggle.
Bromley are currently bottom of the table with just nine points from their opening 13 matches and the division’s worst goal difference at minus 20. The club dismissed manager Andy Woodman on October 22 after five and a half years in charge, and they have failed to win any of their three games since his departure, leaving them in an early relegation battle.
Anichebe’s possible arrival could mark a new beginning for the Ravens as they seek to stabilise in League One. Since retiring from professional football in 2018, the former striker has built a growing presence in sports investment. He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company with interests in sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure across the United Kingdom.
He was also recently involved in a proposed £20 million leisure development project in Liverpool. His interest in Bromley follows an earlier attempt to acquire non-league club Gateshead last year, though that proposed takeover did not materialise.
During his playing career, Anichebe featured for Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland in the Premier League between 2006 and 2017, scoring 27 top-flight goals and providing 12 assists. At international level, he earned 11 caps for Nigeria and scored once in a 3-0 friendly win over Kenya in 2011.
He also won a silver medal with Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he scored against Japan. Now, after moving into business, Anichebe is hoping to make his mark in English football from the boardroom rather than on the pitch.
