Bayern Munich chief sparks backlash over latest comments about Jamal Musiala

Bayern Munich are in a 'dilemma' over Jamal Musiala, according to the club chief Uli Hoeneß, who is being widely criticised for his latest comments about the Germany international.

Back in August this year, Musiala confirmed in a statement that he was being treated for a neurological dysfunction, which causes "temporary, brief, but easily treatable" seizures.

The 23-year-old midfielder revealed the news after collapsing twice during pre-season friendlies.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said a "slight" change in Musiala's medication had led to the collapses against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim.

"I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life," Musiala said on the collapses. "I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this. I am very optimistic."

Bayern Munich chief casts doubt over Jamal Musiala's future at the club

Musiala has made just four appearances for Bayern this season, with his most recent outing coming in a 7-0 victory over Union Berlin on September 18.

Uli Hoeneß, who is Bayern's honourary president, recently touched on Musiala's situation in an interview with Bavarian network BR24, where he questioned whether the player would be able to regain his previous level of performance.

"Musiala's situation is completely different from that of Vincent Kompany," he told Bavarian network "BR24", as per GOAL.

"We are facing a dilemma in this case, as he is suffering from an illness that cannot simply be cured, but it can be controlled to a certain extent with the use of medication. But the question remains: will he one day be able to regain the level he used to show?

"Imagine if Bayern Munich now decided to question his contract, and told him: what you are able to offer currently no longer matches the level stipulated in the contract."

Musiala became one of Bayern's highest-paid players in 2025, when he signed a five-year deal with the club.

Since making the remarks, Hoeneß has faced backlash from a section of supporters on social media, with many questioning why he felt the need to express such concerns publicly.

One fan wrote: "That's a bad way to talk about your player who needs support now? Disgraceful," and a second another commented: "What a horrible statement. Keep these thoughts to yourself. He needs support not this."

A third said: "What an incredibly inconsiderate statement considering everything he’s had to face not just from his own struggles, but from the outside perspectives as well."

A fourth wrote: "I genuinely feel so bad for him. There's been so much noise and pressure around him. I just hope he makes a full recovery, stays injury-free and gets to show the world who Jamal really is. He deserves that moment more than anyone."

A fifth added: "Damn this statement is not it."

Musiala returned to first-team training this week after over a month on the sidelines.
