Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has spoken about the importance of giving back after receiving the Beyond the Pitch Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards in London.
The Nottingham Forest forward received the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) award in recognition of his community work and support for grassroots football, particularly through the Kwara Kiddies League.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Awoniyi wrote: “Life can give you so much, but what truly matters is what you choose to do with what you’ve been given.
“Grateful to receive the PFA Beyond the Pitch Award at the Best of Africa Awards 2026.
“To the whole team”
Awoniyi has supported youth development in Nigeria through his involvement with the Kwara Kiddies League, which provides young players with opportunities to develop their football skills.
The striker became the league’s majority shareholder and chairman in July 2025, having initially supported the competition as a sponsor in 2024.
The league brings together football academies in Kwara State, providing a platform for young players to compete and gain experience.
Through his support, the competition has received resources to improve opportunities for participating players, including football equipment and kits.
The Beyond the Pitch Award recognises footballers who use their influence and resources to support communities beyond their professional careers.
The Best of Africa Awards is an annual event held in London to recognise Africans and people of African heritage for their contributions across sports, entertainment and other fields.
Awoniyi continues to represent Nigeria at international level while playing for Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
