Marten de Roon took part in Roma's media conference the day before the Giallorossi's Champions League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Have you come up with an explanation as to why other coaches aren't able to replicate that Gian Piero Gasperini does?

“The boss is unique. The way he coaches us tactically, he's a cut above everyone else. I rate him immensely. He plays fast football with tremendous intensity and scores lots of goals. His teams have always been very strong.”

How are you finding life in Rome after years in Bergamo?

“I'm happy. When I first joined I needed to get my fitness up and we did that during the international break. The staff and my team-mates welcomed me in really well. I knew I still had something to offer and I'm happy with the way things are going”.

Do you think Roma are on a similar path to the one Atalanta took? Perhaps the path will be a bit shorter here...

"I hope it's shorter otherwise I won't be playing anymore! We had an amazing journey at Atalanta. It seemed like winning trophies was all that mattered. Roma are playing good football. In your first year in the Champions League you want to produce top performances. We want to keep doing the business, even at a magical stadium like Old Trafford.”

Do you think Roma have the character needed to boss games wherever they go?

“We showed a lack of maturity against Real Madrid but we're growing. The way we try to take on opponents and play is always good to watch. We always try to score goals without being too defensive. The main thing is being aware as a team and defending well when we need to. We're improving.”

Do you think you're on your way to earning the Roma fans' 'forgiveness'?

“I'm getting there. Producing good performances is what matters. It was nice to be applauded when I came off against Cagliari. You have to prove your worth through your actions.”

You played against Manchester United when you were at Middlesbrough. What do you remember about that?

“I don't remember much. That was an excellent Man United team and an amazing stadium. They're a great team but we want to come away with a great result.”
