The 7 Man Utd stars Steven Gerrard claims aren't good enough - including former team-mate

The Liverpool legend has called out several members of Man Utd's squad.

Manchester United once again find themselves in a crisis. Despite a run of two wins from 12 matches across all competitions, the Red Devils have decided not to sack Michael Carrick. For now at least, the Red Devils boss is staying. His next assignment as United look to end an eight-game winless run is this weekend's trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. But according to Steven Gerrard, United's problems run much deeper than just the manager, with the former Liverpool captain having picked out seven players he believes aren't good enough.

Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Gerrard name-dropped each and every United player he thinks isn't fit for purpose. Here, Express Sport run through the seven and highlights what Gerrard said about each player...

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has been at United since 2019, but Gerrard believes his time at Old Trafford should come to an end. He said Maguire has had a "really good career", but "should have been moved on quicker." The 33-year-old's current contract expires next summer and the club have an option to extend it by another 12 months.  (Image: Getty)

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw, who Gerrard played with at international level for England, is another one he's singled out. He said: "I played with Luke, he was top in his day." But the Liverpool legend added: "He's not a Manchester United player anymore." Shaw is out of contract in June 2027. (Image: Getty)

Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez
Centre-back Lisandro Martinez has been very critical about the United hierarchy in recent weeks, but Gerrard's opinion is the Argentine ought to be let go. He remarked: "Lisandro Martinez last year, only interested in the World Cup. He's come back, he's seen that the players haven't signed, the four or five that he wants… in his world. Selfishly comes out and speaks then gets injured, goes off at half-time with a kick [against Leeds] and he's fit the next game. That stinks to me." (Image: Getty)

Andrey Santos

It wasn't just old players on the chopping block, with Gerrard also picking on summer signing Andrey Santos. He remarked: "You look at the midfield, they signed a player from Chelsea, £50million, [Andrey] Santos, not a Manchester United player. Then it goes to recruitment higher up. Why are you signing players that are not good enough to play for Manchester United? These [are] the only players you can attract now, but he's not a Manchester United player." (Image: Getty)

Amad

Amad
Gerrard isn't convinced Amad is up to scratch either. On the Ivorian attacker, the former England captain said: "You look on the sides of the pitch. When I played against United, you had [Ryan] Giggs, [David] Beckham, world-class players. I look at the sides of the pitch. Young Amad [Diallo]. Hot and cold. When he's good, he's good. But hasn't shown nothing this season."  (Image: Getty)
