Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are reportedly set to share a purse of nearly $200 million (£151 million) for their 11 December fight at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, although the figures have not been confirmed. According to the BBC, the two British heavyweights will split the money roughly equally, with each expected to earn about $100 million (£75 million). Earlier reports had put the figure at £100 million each. The Times reported that Fury held out for a larger share and that reaching an agreement on a 50-50 split took time. Each fighter’s previous career-high purse was reportedly around £65 million ($85 million). Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said the former champion accepted a pay cut of more than £10 million ($13 million) to keep the fight in the United Kingdom. Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh, UFC chief Dana White and Netflix had pushed for the fight to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York. ‘To keep it in the UK, he (Joshua) has got to turn down eight figures plus’, Hearn said. Cardiff was chosen partly because of the stadium’s retractable roof. Promoter Frank Warren said the money involved was the reason the fight eventually went ahead. ‘It is huge, huge purses. Massive money. The highest of their careers, I should think the highest of any British fighter’s career, ever’, he told SunSport. About 80,000 tickets sold out in roughly an hour on 9 October, with more than 500,000 people in the Ticketmaster queue. Ticket prices at face value ranged from £88.50 to £13,128, including fees. White said the gate was projected to generate about $34 million, which he described as a British record. Netflix subscribers will not have to pay extra to watch the fight. For comparison, the second fight between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 was reportedly worth about $190 million in total, although the split was not disclosed. Neither promoter has released the purse figures, while details of Netflix’s payment, sponsorship revenue and undercard earnings have not been reported. The fighters are expected to make their ring walks at around 1am on 12 December.
