If Arsenal are so boring, why can't your team figure out how to beat them?
If Arsenal are so boring, why can't your team figure out how to beat them?

I love watching Arsenal play. Sure, sometimes my heart rate doesn't agree with that statement - heck, I don't even want to tell you the number of times my watch has beeped at me to tell me I need to relax - but at the end of it all, the wins are always deserved.

And the only opinion that matters is the opinion of the fan. Ultimately, Arsenal don't play football to please Tottenham fans, Chelsea fans or Man United fans. They play football to please Arsenal fans.

Yet, it's rival fans who are the loudest when it comes to talking about Arsenal's style of play. They want to see Arsenal playing differently... I sure do wonder why!

Coming at Arsenal is a self-defeating prophecy

It is quite hilarious to hear rival fans consistently brandish Arsenal as being a 'boring' team - better yet, it's even more hilarious when they dub Arsenal as being anti-football. Both claims are just as nonsensical.

Arsenal being boring must mean they are one-dimensional. If they had more tricks up their sleeve, they wouldn't be boring. So, this claim defeats itself. Arsenal can't be boring if other teams have a hard time working them out. Next.

Arsenal being anti-football must mean they actively work against the ultimate aim of football. The ultimate aim of football is to win - Arsenal win quite a lot - Next.

Criticising Arsenal won't make your team any more entertaining

It's easy to hate on the team at the top. It helps you sleep better at night, right? I know when Arsenal were finishing second for all those years, my only focus was on Man City and their charges. Such is the nature of football, you will cling to any notion that makes you feel better about teams outperforming your own team.

It's tough out there, I get it. When this Arsenal era inevitably come to an end - as all football eras eventually do - I'll probably return to criticising whichever team takes over. That's just the psyche of Premier League fandom.

But it doesn't change the facts. Each team has their own identity, and ultimately, as a fan, you should not care about what rival fans think of your team. It's water off a duck's back.

The moral of the story is that criticising Arsenal doesn't make your team any more entertaining. Nothing is more entertaining in football than winning games and lifting trophies, regardless of what football purists say through clenched jaws.
