Former Super Eagles striker Anichebe moves closer to buying English Club

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe is reportedly close to completing a takeover of English football club Bromley, in what could be his first major investment in football club ownership.

According to talkSPORT, Anichebe is leading a wealthy African group of investors currently in advanced talks to buy the English League One club.

The 38-year-old former Everton striker is said to be negotiating with Bromley owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves as both sides work towards reaching an agreement.

The proposed takeover comes at a difficult time for Bromley, who are struggling in their first season in League One.

The South London club secured promotion from the National League to League Two in 2024. They then earned another promotion to League One at the end of last season.

Since his departure, Bromley have failed to win any of their three matches, increasing fears that they could face relegation.

Anichebe’s proposed takeover could provide the club with fresh investment and a new direction as they fight to improve their position in the league.

The former Nigeria international has developed an interest in sports investment since retiring from professional football in 2018.

He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company with interests in sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure in the United Kingdom.

Anichebe was also recently linked to a proposed £20 million leisure development project in Liverpool.

His interest in Bromley follows an earlier attempt to buy non-league club Gateshead last year. However, that deal did not go through.

During his time in the Premier League, he scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists.

At international level, he made 11 appearances for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, scoring once.

His only international goal came in Nigeria’s 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya in 2011.

He was also part of Nigeria’s U-23 team that won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He scored against Japan during the tournament.

Having moved into business after ending his playing career, Anichebe is now looking to make a name for himself in English football through club ownership rather than playing on the pitch.
