Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has backed Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, insisting there is no convincing argument against the England captain claiming football’s most prestigious individual award.
Gerrard believes Kane has done enough to emerge ahead of other leading contenders, including Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the former England midfielder praised Kane’s remarkable consistency and goalscoring ability, describing him as a player who has met every expectation.
“I just think Harry’s ticked every single box. Mr. Consistent. Absolute goal machine,” Gerrard said.
“I just don’t think there is an argument against it [him winning the Ballon d’Or], and I wish him all the best come that ceremony on Monday. I think it’s now or never for him.”
Kane has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Bayern Munich and England, scoring more than 70 goals across both sides last season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker also helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga title and claimed the European Golden Boot, further strengthening his credentials in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
Gerrard’s endorsement adds to the conversation surrounding the award, with Kane facing competition from several of the world’s leading players.
For the Bayern forward, winning the Ballon d’Or would represent a major milestone in his career, rewarding his sustained goalscoring excellence and consistency at the highest level of football.
