And he's such a fan, he bought them twice
During PSG's Champions League opener, I noticed Luis Enrique wearing a pair of Nike P-6000s on the sidelines. It wasn't just the shoes that were memorable: PSG thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1.
And then last night, Enrique's team ran out onto the pitch to play Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Inside 17 minutes, PSG were four goals up. By full-time, they'd added two more for a 6-0 win away from home. Even this bitter Arsenal fan can't fault it. And once again, Enrique shouted, looked concerned and did anything but smile (business as usual, then) throughout the match in another pair of Nike P-6000s.
Now, I don't want to jinx it, but the superstitious among us might spot a pattern. Six goals in P-6000s? That's enough to make you look twice. It's what some might call manifesting. Could Enrique be all about that woo-woo talk? After all, these weren't the same trainers from that first match, but a different pair. Maybe sticking with the same model will bring him more of the same results.
The pair I first spotted him in was the ‘Light Bone Sail Pale Ivory’ colourway; a light grey style that broke up the all-black fit he wore during that September game. Last night, he opted for the ‘Thunder Blue Pale Ivory Slate Sail’ trainer. The navy mesh upper has silver overlays running across it, with the Swoosh sitting on top. But other than the colour, everything else remains the same. It sits on a bouncy rubber outsole. The laces’ tag also reads ‘Bowerman Series’. And it still has that dad-trainer vibe that first caught our attention a few months back. He's even wearing a similar all-black fit – with an even baggier, wider-leg trouser this time.

Ahead of the game, Enrique spoke to the press about pundits calling him a fraud. “We have all won, we have all lost,” he says during the press conference. “I have been through countless situations where I was considered a ‘fraud’ by a lot of people, and that fraud has kept evolving and improving, because that is the mindset a coach must have.”
“And now, everyone thinks I'm 'the chosen one' or I don't know what,” he continues, “And this is all a lie, all a lie. The important thing is to follow your path. And along the path, the beautiful thing is that there are potholes, curves, and climbs.”
Bets on what trainers he'll be slipping on to walk that road.
