Antonio Conte: “No advanced talks at the moment. Ready to discuss things, never asked for full control”
Antonio Conte: “No advanced talks at the moment. Ready to discuss things, never asked for full control”

The coach from Salento has clarified the rumours linking him with Manchester United and Juventus.

Since his spell with Napoli ended, Antonio Conte has become one of the most talked-about and sought-after managers for fans and clubs considering a mid-season change, in Italy and beyond.

Reports in Italy have linked him with the Juventus and AC Milan jobs in recent weeks as a possible replacement for Luciano Spalletti and Ruben Amorim. But reports gathering pace in recent hours have put him among the leading candidates for the Manchester United job as a replacement for Michael Carrick, whose departure looks increasingly likely.

After reports in England set out what is holding the Red Devils back (READ HERE), Conte has spoken out, firmly denying them while leaving the door wide open.

United’s “doubts”

Today, several Italian and English publications cited sources within the Red Devils to confirm the club's doubts about Conte. They regarded him as a highly qualified candidate but still had several concerns.

Conte's strong personality was the first concern, one he mentioned in his message. They feared it could lead to clashes with players and the club.

There was also his alleged demand for no interference whatsoever in his work, effectively giving him complete control. The manager also denied that claim.

Finally, they feared the overhaul he had in mind would take Manchester United into yet another transfer window of heavy spending and put an increasing burden on the balance sheet.

The social media message

Conte rarely posts on social media, but he used an Instagram story to address rumours from England. He denied that talks were at an advanced stage or that he had made any demands reportedly holding back the Red Devils, while confirming he was open to hearing possible offers.

"In light of the reports published in recent days by several media outlets, in Italy and abroad, I feel it is right to speak out and clarify matters. My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but at present there are no talks at an advanced stage.

After a wonderful and successful spell in charge of Napoli, I will take the time I need to assess how and when to return to coaching. It will be a considered decision, which I will make when I believe the right conditions are in place.

I have read about supposed financial demands and demands for full control that I have allegedly already put to the clubs mentioned, as well as reservations linked to what has been described as my ‘strong character’. These accounts are unfounded because, at present, there are no concrete grounds on which to base such assessments.

If a concrete opportunity arises, that will be the time to speak with the club concerned and assess together the terms of a possible agreement, respecting our respective needs and the characteristics that define my work as a coach.

Until then, any claims about my demands and my professional future remain speculation and cannot be considered fact."
