Enugu 2026: NMMAF Sets Mixed Martial Arts Participation Rules

The Nigerian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (NMMAF) has introduced mandatory eligibility, registration and coaching requirements for states, clubs and athletes participating in the 2026 National Sports Festival in Enugu.

In a circular dated Nov. 4 and signed by its Secretary-General, Obillor Lilian, the federation said only amateur athletes would be eligible, ruling out professional fighters.

It also barred serving kickboxing coaches and assistant coaches from leading or coordinating state Mixed Martial Arts teams.

The federation directed all participating athletes to obtain Budo Passport Cards at ₦10,000 each, while states and clubs must pay an annual affiliation fee of ₦50,000. Coaches must also hold valid NMMAF-recognised certification.

Athletes are required to attend a free one-day physical workshop and grading exercise in Enugu, scheduled for the day before the competition.

The exercise is mandatory for qualification.

States must also provide approved competition kits, protective gear and other required equipment to ensure athletes' safety.

The NMMAF said all payments for affiliation, passport cards, certificates and grading must be made exclusively through its Secretary-General, with proper documentation and acknowledgement.

It urged all participating states, clubs, coaches and athletes to comply with the guidelines to ensure proper preparation and a successful competition.
