Cristiano Ronaldo is closing in on one of football's rarest milestones. The 41-year-old Portuguese striker needs just 15 more goals to reach 1,000 career strikes after netting a hat-trick in Al-Nassr's 5-3 win over Al Kholood on Thursday in the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo struck at Alawwal Park in the 66th, 72nd and 81st minutes to bring his official tally to 985 goals across club and country. The three-goal haul has thrust the 1,000-goal target firmly into focus after he spent years pursuing the landmark publicly.

At 41, the forward continues to extend a goalscoring record built over more than two decades. He's played for five clubs and captained Portugal, making him one of football's most prolific finishers in history.

Ronaldo told Rio Ferdinand in 2024 that reaching 1,000 goals remained a major motivation as he considers the final years of his career. The target isn't a new obsession—he's spoken about it openly for several years.

His journey has taken him from Sporting Lisbon through Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and now Al-Nassr. Each club added significantly to his remarkable scoring record.

Real Madrid provided his biggest hunting ground. He scored 450 goals during his nine-year spell between 2009 and 2018, leaving the Bernabéu as the club's all-time leading scorer with four Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns.

Manchester United across two spells yielded 145 goals, while he struck 101 times for Juventus after joining in 2018. Ronaldo registered just five senior goals at Sporting Lisbon before moving to England in 2003.

For Portugal, he's netted 146 goals, making him the leading scorer in men's international football history. His Al-Nassr tally stands at 138, though some databases record a slightly different figure due to a disputed goal credit.

The figures underscore his consistency across different leagues and career stages. His record rests on movement, aerial dominance, powerful finishing and an unrelenting hunger for goals.

The hat-trick capped a landmark week for Ronaldo. He won the inaugural Ballon d'Or of All Time, beating Lionel Messi in a global vote celebrating his 2007/08 season at Manchester United when he scored 42 goals and won the Premier League and Champions League.

His latest achievement reinforces his impact in Saudi Arabia. He's won back-to-back Saudi Pro League Golden Boots in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons before finishing third last season when Al-Nassr claimed the title.

Ronaldo's arrival has helped draw global attention to the Saudi competition after heavy investment in international talent. For Al-Nassr, his goalscoring remains central to their domestic and continental ambitions.
