Liverpool news: Andoni Iraola offers £38m transfer hope as damning Arne Slot comments made

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has commented on reports regarding one potential transfer target for the club as his coaching methods are compared to those of predecessor Arne Slot

Andoni Iraola's Liverpool continue to entertain after yet another thrilling comeback in their Champions League win over Villarreal. Tuesday's turnaround means the Reds have won three in a row for the first time this season after downing the Yellow Submarine 4-3.

They'll face a difficult return to Premier League duties this Sunday when they host a high-flying Brighton at Anfield. Liverpool are currently fifth in England's top flight but could make the jump to fourth with a home win this weekend.

Certain under-performers are starting to come good, too, as Iraola's methods take hold with the team. Mirror Football breaks down the latest headlines ahead of Sunday's key clash as the manager looks to continue perfecting his team.

Iraola addresses Mora rumours

Iraola has spoken out about Liverpool's reported interest in Tijuana and Mexico playmaker Gilberto Mora. The Reds have been heavily associated with a move for the youngster, who can move to Europe after recently celebrating his 18th birthday.

Mora, who became the youngest player to represent Mexico at a World Cup this summer, remains under contract with Tijuana. Reports have speculated Liverpool have already submitted a bid in excess of £38million to make him Liga MX's most expensive export.

"Let’s see, not only because of what he’s doing," Iraola told TNT Sports Mexico on Tuesday when asked about the links as refused to rule out an approach. "There are times when you ask me about players, but I can’t talk about players who aren’t ours, right? In the end, there’s respect.

“And there has to be respect between clubs and well, if you’ll allow me, I don’t have my opinion, obviously, but I prefer not to comment, not about players who aren’t from Liverpool."

Mora still has another two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract with Tijuana. However, it's widely expected the Mexican outfit will have little choice in resisting the temptations of Europe's elite should they come calling for the player in 2027.

Mac Allister's Slot comparison

Alexis Mac Allister has launched a thinly veiled dig at Arne Slot after being impressed by the improvements made under his successor. Despite some growing pains, Liverpool are looking a little more like their old selves with some high-scoring results of late.

Tuesday's 4-3 win over Villarreal, where Mac Allister scored twice, was the latest sign of the free-flowing potential in Iraola's squad. And at the very least, the midfielder is pleased with the individual progress he's been able to make under the new regime.

"Last year was a really difficult year for all of us," he told Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday. "It was clear that I was not at the level. I am the first one to say, I have no problem. Something wasn’t right in the group. This manager changed it, and that’s really important.

"The way we play is quite different. I don’t like to compare. I feel good, that’s what I want and that’s what I enjoy. Now it’s more man to man. You have to communicate less because you have to follow [the opponent].

"Last year it was more of a zonal thing. With the national team we do more of a zonal thing and it works. Now we do a one-v-one and it works.

"In the end, it’s about us taking the responsibility. That’s one of the changes, but now it’s much easier. You have to think less but run more, maybe. That’s the way football is going."
