Kyle Hudson set to be named Tigers' first-base coach (sources)

DETROIT -- Former Red Sox third-base coach Kyle Hudson is joining Tigers manager A.J. Hinch’s staff as first-base coach, sources told MLB.com.

Hudson, who spent three-plus seasons in Boston before being dismissed along with manager Alex Cora in midseason, replaces Anthony Sanders, who was dismissed last month after one season in Detroit. The Tigers have not confirmed the hire, which was first reported by Rob Bradford of WEEI.

Hudson, who turns 40 in January, began his Red Sox coaching career at first base in 2023 before moving across the infield. In addition to baserunning, the former Orioles outfielder coordinated Boston’s outfield work. He previously spent six years in the Guardians organization, including three as a Major League coaching assistant in Cleveland.

In Detroit, he’ll join third-base coach Billy Boyer on the club’s baserunning instruction.

The hire nearly completes the Tigers staff. Detroit still has to hire an assistant pitching coach to replace Juan Nieves.
