Chiefs’ game went flat against the Seahawks, going scoreless in the first half. But along with their bad performance, Cris Collinsworth’s wrong play calling also raised major questions online.

“That the two Seattle receivers ran into each other and both collapsed,” Cris Collinsworth said during NBC Sports live coverage. “Just keep your eye on right down here, this part of the field, as they both go to the crossing route. Coming in there, they’re both looking back for the ball, and bang! Run right into each other and create the easy interception.”
With just 23 seconds left in the second quarter, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold threw a short pass over the middle intended for Rashid Shaheed, but Chiefs defender Noah Williams intercepted it near Kansas City’s 9-yard line. Williams then returned the ball 65 yards to Seattle’s 44-yard line, stopping the Seahawks’ scoring opportunity just before halftime.
But during that moment, while catching the ball, Darnold Shaheed collided with Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
That’s where the problem started. Cris blamed the interception on Seattle receivers Rashid Shaheed and Jaxon Smith-Njigba colliding, saying their mistake gave Kansas City an “easy interception.” But the ball was already picked off by Williams.
Fans couldn’t take that mistake lightly. Within hours, the incident drew multiple retweets, and football admirers started flooding X with criticism.
One fan accused Collinsworth of showing bias toward Kansas City, writing, “Sheesh – could @NBCCollinsworth be any more biased in his announcing?!? Seattle’s doing well for now until Darnold throws another interception. GFY Cris!” The viewer appeared frustrated with Collinsworth’s commentary and believed he was being unfair to Seattle.
Another fan questioned the accuracy of his explanation and criticized his reported salary, writing, “Cris Collinsworth just said that an interception in the end zone was caused by two Seattle receivers colliding. The ball was caught before the receivers collided. NBC is paying Collinsworth approx. $735k/game. Mike Tirico is a saint for putting up with this moron.”
The fan argued that the interception had already happened before the collision, making Collinsworth’s explanation misleading.
Other fans also challenged the timing of the play. One wrote, “The wide receivers colliding after the ball was already picked off ‘create the easy interception?’ Huh?” Another directly questioned Collinsworth’s analysis, saying, “@CollinsworthPFF talking about it was an easy interception because the receivers ran into each other. The defender undercut the route.”
This fan summed up the confusion, writing, “Yeah, not sure what Collinsworth was seeing/was thinking”.
Together, the reactions show that fans were not happy with Cris Collinsworth’s analysis, which created massive confusion.
