Kochi, Oct 28: UP Warriorz (UPW) head coach Abhishek Nayar emphasized that the franchise approached the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction with a clear vision, successfully acquiring players who offer both quality and tactical flexibility.

UPW was notably active during Wednesday's auction, adding eight new players to their ten retained members. Their most significant acquisition was Australian captain Sophie Molineux, who became the most expensive buy of the day at Rs 1.10 crore.

Nayar stated, “We had a precise idea of the squad we intended to build. Sophie Molineux was a crucial target, and we are thrilled to have secured her. Alongside Grace Harris, Sneh Rana, and our other new additions, she significantly enhances our quality and versatility. We sought players who could perform in various scenarios and complement our existing core. We are content with the team we’ve assembled and eagerly anticipate bringing everyone together before the season begins.”

Beyond Molineux, UPW also signed Australian all-rounder Grace Harris, India all-rounder Sneh Rana, leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, and wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma, each for Rs 30 lakh. Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce and uncapped Indian all-rounders Sahana Pawar and Manali Dakshini were secured for Rs 10 lakh each.

Capri Sports COO Kshemal Waingankar highlighted that Molineux's arrival strengthens an already formidable spin attack. “Sophie Molineux’s inclusion further bolsters our spin options, allowing for diverse combinations. Grace Harris adds power to our middle order, while Sophie brings leadership, exceptional bowling, and a strong team presence. The pairing of Sophie Molineux and Sophie Ecclestone promises to be a potent force, and Grace offers the flexibility to adapt our strategies based on match conditions.”

Grace Harris, who started her WPL journey with UPW in 2023, returns after winning the 2026 title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Asha Sobhana was re-acquired at a much lower price than the Rs 1.1 crore paid for her in 2026, showcasing shrewd financial management.

UP Warriorz's full squad for WPL 2027 includes: Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Ecclestone, Harleen Deol, Pratika Rawal, Shikha Pandey, Kranti Gaud, Shipra Giri, Simran Shaikh, Sophie Molineux, Grace Harris, Sneh Rana, Asha Sobhana, Sushma Verma, Kathryn Bryce, Manali Dakshini, and Sahana Pawar.
