Beşiktaş midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has revealed the reason for his eye-catching celebration after scoring his first goal of the campaign in Thursday night’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Nigeria international struck with a calm left-footed effort after Salih Özcan supplied the pass, sending the ball beyond Crystal Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez.

Ndidi attracted particular notice after the goal when he pointed at the number printed on the back of his shirt.

“It was a good game today,” Ndidi said.

“We began the first half a little slowly, then we found our rhythm and scored. It was similar in the second half. In general, it was a good match.”

“Beşiktaş is a huge club. We are proving ourselves against sides from major leagues. We are progressing in the right direction, everyone is putting in the work and fighting. Everything is going very well. In fact, I was congratulating myself and telling myself, ‘bravo’,” he added.

Ndidi completed the full match and will look to carry this display into the coming fixtures, sustaining his influence in midfield while adding further goals for Beşiktaş.
