Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly struggling to establish himself under Mikel Arteta, with former coach Anders Limpar suggesting a tactical adjustment could help.
The Gunners recently drew 2-2 against Bayern Munich, with Eberechi Eze scoring before Declan Rice secured a late equaliser.
Kai Havertz has recently featured as Arteta’s preferred centre-forward, increasing competition for starting opportunities at the Emirates Stadium.
Havertz praised Harry Kane’s all-round game, highlighting his goalscoring, assists and ability to connect teammates during difficult attacking situations.
The German also insisted his relationship with Gyokeres remained positive, explaining that neither striker becomes resentful when the other receives playing time.
However, Football fan cast reports that Gyokeres has struggled to secure regular starts since arriving from Sporting CP, prompting speculation about his future.
Arsenal have reportedly valued the Swedish international at £55 million, while alternative attacking targets have also emerged amid questions surrounding his performances.
Limpar, who previously coached Gyokeres at Swedish club Brommapojkarna, believes playing alone upfront does not suit the striker’s strengths.
“When I see Viktor playing for Sweden, he is much better because he’s playing with two up front, and he was brought up in the Swedish system, playing with two forwards.
“Playing up front on his own is hard for him because it’s not his game to be a target player.”
Limpar believes Gyokeres would benefit from partnering a traditional target man, allowing him to exploit space, chase loose balls and attack counterattacks.
He also identified difficulties receiving possession and combining with teammates as areas where the forward must improve.
“If you ask me if I want him to play, then yes, I think he should play as a starter,” Limpar added.
Arteta has yet to indicate whether he would consider using two strikers, leaving Gyokeres’ role uncertain as Arsenal assess their attacking options.
