Premier League injury table: Every player's latest status and return date

The Premier League returns this weekend as the biggest teams in England's top flight provide updates on which stars could be in action and who's likely to remains sidelined

Michael Carrick reacts

Manchester United and Chelsea open week nine of the Premier League on Saturday and will each be without some big names. Hot on the heels of the midweek slate of Carabao Cup clashes, some in England's top flight have suffered fresh fitness blows that could impact their seasons greatly.

Many Premier League bosses have already provided pre-match information on who to expect in action this weekend, as well as who's likely to be missing. And some teams are being hit harder than others as the season moves into its busiest period.

Mirror Football provides the latest Premier League news on which players are injured and when to expect them back on the field.

On Alex Scott, he said on Thursday: "He’s on the pitch, he works hard, he has no problems. He didn’t train with the team so far, but I’m quite sure that he’s going to do it the next couple of days and then we’re going to see: is it worth bringing him back before the international break in the squad or do we do it after the international break to be maybe more reasonable?"

"Antoni trained with the group on Saturday and he’s involved today [Tuesday], so he’s in and around it. Kaye is doing really well. He’s been out of his boot for about a week to 10 days. He’s not on the grass yet but is making really good progress and is in good spirits.

"Josh, similarly to Antoni, was involved with the Saturday session before the Hull game. He’s building, was involved in a bigger session in midweek last week and is making really good strides."

And regarding the other players who were out for a long time, Zadok is back on the training pitch. "He’s still not with us out on the grass yet. We’re looking forward to him being back outside with us."

Regading Bobby Thomas' recent setback, he added: "Yeah, he’s got a small calf issue. So, thankfully, our fears in the beginning when you don’t know...you’re worried about that lower region of the leg around the Achilles, but it’s a small calf problem. "We are still not clear of exactly how long but it is going to be for a longer period of time. It is a process and as I said before we have to go through the process, there is a healing process for the injury to see how he would react and what direction to go with that. Even now we are still working through it.

"First and foremost for Ben for the period that he has had and tried to get through it. Going through it again and to not have him available is a blow but we will get him back as quick as we can.

"There’s no decision to be made on [whether Bruno remains as captain]. He’s the captain of our football club, you know, and there’s different personalities, there’s different characteristics, there’s different ways to lead. It all comes down to what happens on the football pitch and whether you win or not, in the end.

"So, all the questions get asked, and I understand why you’re asking them now, but he cares deeply about this football club and about the team and he’s desperate to do well. So, we’ll lead that together."

"We are confident he will be available against Brentford, or at the latest against City."
