It was an eventful month of October for the Florida Panthers. Even after losing two key players in Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand early to lower-body injuries, Florida has managed to find its footing over the first month of the season.

The Panthers are 8-4-2 as the calendar prepares to flip to November.

And while the focus for these Panthers is always on the team result, there were a lot of individual accolades that played a part in this success.

Among them...

A handful of hat tricks

The Panthers recorded an almost unheard of five hat tricks across the month of October.

Brady Tkachuk had two in back-to-back games on Oct. 13 at the Columbus Blue Jackets and Oct. 15 against the Vancouver Canucks. Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett followed that up by both recorded hat tricks on Oct. 17 against the Seattle Kraken. And then Anton Lundell posted his first career hat trick on Friday against the Winnipeg Jets.

The five hat tricks are already tied for the second-most in a season in franchise history (also the 1999-2000 season, 2019-20 season and 2020-21 season). The Panthers had 6 hat tricks in the 2021-22 season.

Matthew Tkachuk and Seth Jones with the assists

Star winger Matthew Tkachuk and defenseman Seth Jones were Florida’s top point producers in October, with the majority of their work coming from setting up goals rather than scoring themselves.

Matthew Tkachuk had 20 points (four goals and 16 assists) in 13 October games, while Jones put up 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) in the month.

They became the first set of Panthers teammates to each register 16 assists in a single month. They join Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux (22) and Paul Coffey (18) as the only forward-defenseman combination from the same team in NHL history to each record at least 16 assists in a single October.

Matthew Tkachuk’s 20-point month was his fifth such calendar month of his Panthers tenure, tied with Barkov and Pavel Bure for the most in franchise history.

Jones’ 18 points, meanwhile, passed Keith Yandle for the most points by a Panthers defenseman in a single calendar month. Yandle had 17 points in March 2018.

Reinhart’s power play prowess

The Panthers’ power play production picked up dramatically over the second half of the month.

Sam Reinhart played a major role in that.

Reinhart has six power-play goals through games played Friday, tied with Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl for most in the NHL. All of those goals for Reinhart have come over the past nine games.

It’s the third time in Reinhart’s Panthers career that he has scored at least six power-play goals in a calendar month. Reinhart owns the franchise record for power-play goals in a month, with 10 in January 2024.

He’s the only Panthers player to have multiple calendar months with at least six power-play goals. Olli Jokinen (October 2007), Bure (February 2001), Ray Sheppard (November 1996) and Scott Mellanby (January 1994) each did it once.

The Panthers are 11th in the NHL with a 24.2% success rate on the power play this season.
