Jaguars' new uniforms: 'Bold City' alternates have big cat details, honor local neighborhoods

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the NFL's youngest organizations. Yet 32 seasons have been sufficient to craft a fascinating uniform history − from the franchise's original logo being scrapped by a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Jaguar, the luxury British sports car brand, to the infamous two-toned black-and-gold helmets used from 2013 to '17, to its generally non-descript, if clean, appearance. (Do you even remember their "Shell White" helmets ... worn once in 2024? Didn't think so.)

But the "Bold City" alternates the Jags will wear for the first time on Sunday, Nov. 1, against the Indianapolis Colts as their installment in Nike's "Rivalries" program might be the most inspired getups the team has ever donned.

What's new about the Jaguars' 'Rivalries' uniforms?

Pretty much everything.

Start with the glossy helmet, the first time the Jags have been crowned in teal. It also features a golden facemask, Duval County's 904 area code on the front bumper and "Duuuval" on the back bumper − coach Liam Coen surely delighting in that detail.

On the white jerseys, "Jaguars" is written in script above numbers which use a font that, per the team, is "heavily inspired by the historic music venues and Southern rock influence that Jacksonville is known for." The mostly black digits also have a subtle spotting pattern of a black jaguar while trimmed in gold with teal shadowing. "Bold City" is stitched inside the collar, while "Since '95" is emblazoned on the outside, a nod to the Jags' first season.

That slick spotting pattern really comes alive on the dark pants, "inspired by the black-on-black spots sometimes found on the Panthera onca, or jaguar." Hidden within the spots are names of 10 Jacksonville neighborhoods and communities, honoring local fans − particularly those who live near Dames Point, Westside, San Marco and elsewhere. A teal stripe bordered in gold completes the nicely devised look.

What are NFL 'Rivalries' uniforms by Nike?

Think of them as the football version of the sports apparel company’s NBA "City Edition" uniforms or Major League Baseball’s "City Connect" jerseys. Nike has strived to create something that further strengthens NFL teams’ bonds to their unique civic environments. And, as “rivalries” would suggest, all of them will be worn in intra-divisional matchups.

“Rivalries uniforms will celebrate storied local traditions and unite fan communities with designs unique to select cities and teams,” Nike announced during the program’s launch in 2025.

"The designs are rooted extensively in the legacies and inspirations true to each team, serving as authentic, competitive expressions of community pride while giving athletes and fans an opportunity to connect like never before."

Which NFL teams have 'Rivalries' uniforms?

Eventually all of them will. This year, AFC South and NFC North squads are joining the AFC East and NFC West teams that kicked off the initiative last year. Every team that has a “Rivalries” uni is scheduled to wear it once this season. The other four divisions will be added to the rotation over the next two seasons, and the “Rivalries” option then becomes part of a team’s closet for the following three years.
