Yan Diomande produced another moment of pure brilliance on Sunday night, scoring a stunning volley as Real Madrid crushed Racing Santander 3-0 away in La Liga. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international continues to thrive in the absence of Vinicius Junior, delivering the kind of clinical, high-quality contributions that justify his massive summer move to the Bernabéu.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute before Jude Bellingham made it 2-0 on the counter in the 21st. Diomande then sealed the first-half dominance in the 36th minute.

After an Arda Güler corner was only half-cleared, the young winger met the bouncing ball on the edge of the area with a clean first-time right-footed volley that flew into the top corner.

It was the kind of strike that instantly went viral and underlined why Madrid paid a club-record fee (around €125m plus add-ons, potentially up to €140m) to bring him from RB Leipzig.

This was Diomande’s third La Liga goal of the season and his fourth goal overall for Real Madrid across all competitions.

The strike also moved him into exclusive company: he now has three league goals for the club before turning 20, level with Sergio Ramos and behind only Arda Güler (seven), Vinicius Junior and Gonzalo Higuaín (four each) among 21st-century Real Madrid players.

His recent form has been outstanding. In his last six appearances, Diomande has contributed four goals and three or four assists for a total of seven to eight goal involvements. He has scored against Villarreal, Sevilla, RB Leipzig and now Racing Santander, while providing assists in games against Sevilla, Leipzig and others.

Across the full season so far (14 appearances, roughly 740 minutes), he sits on four goals and four assists. In La Liga alone he has three goals and two assists in 11 games.

Signed as a long-term replacement and competitor for the wide positions, the Abidjan-born forward has seized his opportunities under José Mourinho.

Explosive pace, direct dribbling, and increasingly clinical finishing have made him a constant threat. He has already broken club records for youngest goal-and-assist combinations in both La Liga and the Champions League this century.

With Real Madrid sitting third in La Liga on 27 points—three behind leaders Barcelona and one behind Atlético—Diomande’s performances are giving the side a dangerous new dimension.

As Vinicius remains sidelined, the young Ivorian is not just filling a gap; he is forcing his way into the conversation as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers. Expect more fireworks from the €140m star in the weeks ahead.
