The national anthem ahead of the Chiefs’ 20-3 loss Sunday to the Seahawks caught the attention of one Seattle media member.
“The large contingency of Kansas City fans were quite noticeable at the end of the national anthem,” wrote King 5 sports reporter Arielle Orsuto in an X post.
You can guess what caught Orsuto’s attention, right? It was the end of the national anthem as Chiefs fans announced they were at the game by singing their traditional “Home of the CHIEFS!”

The Chiefs only play in Seattle every eight years, so many KC fans took the opportunity for a road trip to Washington state. And The Chiefs did something cool for those who made the trip as they rented out T-Mobile Park, which is the Mariners ballpark.
That stadium is near Lumen Field, where Sunday night’s game was played, and it looked like there was a great turnout.
“The Chiefs are the best franchise in the NFL,” a fan named Greg Jackson wrote in a Facebook post. “They hosted a pregame event for season ticket holders at the Mariners Stadium. Food, beverages and games, free to fans who came to Seattle. I asked one of the workers if every team did this, she said in her 22 years this is the first time a team has done this. GO CHIEFS!!!”
While it was a great gesture for Chiefs Kingdom, some Seattle sports fans were irked the Mariners allowed their stadium to host visiting supporters.
“Mariners pretty on brand for you to think of profit above pride for the city,” one wrote. “Hosting the Chiefs tailgate party is another item in the series of embarrassing moments by the people that run the organization.”
Another asked: “Mariners why do you make it so difficult to love you?”
“This is pathetic!” wrote a fan. “Show some respect, @Mariners”
Another shared this: “The Seahawks played a home SNF game and the next door neighbor Mariners allowed opposing Chiefs fans to rent a space at T-Mobile Park for a watch party. Example number 463,721,809,539 of how embarrassing the Mariners are as an organization.”
A user with the name Mariners Muse wrote: “This is so embarrassing. Sell the team.”
In response to that message another fan called on local sports talk radio to call out the Mariners: “I can’t listen until this afternoon but holy (heck) is this unacceptable. Give me a take where this is reasonable as a representative of Seattle.”
“How could you possibly allow this if you’re Mariners ownership?” another asked.

@TheMikeSalk @BrockHuard PLEASE tell me you’re going to bring this up on the pod today. I can’t listen until this afternoon but holy hell is this unacceptable. Give me a take where this is reasonable as a representative of Seattle.
