Mighty Wanderers Football Club 2021 Limited President and Board Chairperson Thomson Mpinganjira says the club will build a gazebo for players and a play area for women and children.
He said this is part of efforts to fully modernise the club house.
Mpinganjira made the remarksTuesday while inspecting renovation works following the completion of the club house’s third phase.
He praised the new facilities, which include a conference room, gym, lounge, sports shop, restaurant and secretariat offices.
“I’m very impressed with what I have seen. The boardroom is ready; we just need to equip it with furniture. The washrooms and gym are ready and we just want to complete the administration offices,” Mpinganjira said.
He said the gazebo is the club’s next priority, giving players a place of their own to relax during the day and to have lunch and meals on matchdays.
“The next quick project that we want to do is a gazebo for players. They should have their own place where they can come anytime of the day, relax and have their meals on gameday.
“But we still have a lot of work to do. Once we do the gazebo for players, we will do a family area, where women and children can come. We want to build a playground for children and women. A club as old as Wanderers must have a proper home but, unfortunately, that was neglected for a long time. So, we start by making sure that our home is nice and proper,” Mpinganjira said.
The club president revealed that the club planned to secure land for a training ground and other facilities.
Mpinganjira said he had tried to lease Chilomoni Stadium for the purpose, but the club did not get the go-ahead from the Football Association of Malawi.
“Other people and I are actively looking for land to build a training ground and other facilities,” he said.
He urged Wanderers supporters to continue backing the team regardless of results, saying the club is doing everything it can to perform but faces challenges, including competition from other teams.
Mpinganjira said he believed Wanderers had raised the standard of football in Malawi.
He said, previously, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets won the league title almost every year, but now every club is challenging for it.
He was accompanied by board secretary Chancy Gondwe and directors Andrex Kalinde, David Kanyenda, Christopher Gondwe and Madalitso Musa.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Welloce Kachingwe was also present.
