The process that could lead to Younes Ibrahim representing Egypt is advancing, with the Brighton midfielder reportedly nearing a first call-up for upcoming international camps.
According to Maghreb-Foot, Ibrahim’s inclusion with the Pharaohs is becoming increasingly likely as Egypt seek to strengthen their squad by bringing in young players who have been developed or are currently playing in Europe.
Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has clarified the division of responsibility surrounding the midfielder’s potential international switch. Administrative procedures are being handled by the Egyptian Football Federation, while sporting decisions and selection remain solely the responsibility of the technical staff.
The decision to leave the paperwork entirely with the federation has raised questions over the speed of the process. It has also prompted suggestions that senior figures within the national team could become involved to help facilitate Ibrahim’s arrival.
Ibrahim has Egyptian heritage as well as Moroccan and Australian roots, leaving him with an important decision over his international future. Once his administrative position is formally confirmed, his sporting allegiance can be settled and he could become eligible for selection in Egypt’s next fixtures.
Before then, Brighton are due to face Manchester City in the last 16 of the EFL Cup.
