Another victory blaugrana fans! That's now five wins in eight EuroLeague gameweeks for Barça after this triumph away to Bayern Munich (84-88) in another show of strength and maturity. Punter led the way with 23 points, but his teammates all chipped in too, and Sekulic's side are in the top half of the table ahead of the game against Valencia on 30 October at the Palau Blaugrana.
With Parra out through illness, Makoundou injured and Ubal left out, the blaugranes had a good chance to earn points away from home against a Bayern Munich side in need of wins, with former blaugrana Miles Norris leading the attack.
However, an increasingly important Tyrese Martin took it upon himself to stop the home side's efforts and with Umoja Gibson full of beans, the blaugranes took a 13-21 lead, which was four by the end of the first quarter (17-21).
Punter began to show in the second quarter and would end up top scorer (23), his best tally in October and second highest of the season. Nebo was also dominant in the paint. However, with triples by Obst and Norris, and a 2+1 from Washington, there was little to choose between the sides at the break (42-41).
The blaugranes were proving inaccurate from the perimeter, plus they lost Gibson to a knock to the left knee. Baskets were exchanged at the start of the second half, with Punter sharpshooting to respond to triples by Norris and Obst. However, the game was set to be decided in the fourth.
Punter was on fire until the buzzer and allied with smart play by Juan Núñez, they did their utmost to ensure the team played at the pace that was needed. The German side came to within one (78-79), but Barça remained focused. Then the home side failed from the free throw line, while Punter didn't, and the blaugranes took the win (84-88), their fifth in eight gameweeks. The ninth is to come at the Palau Blaugrana against Valencia Basket on 30 October..
