Frenkie de Jong made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Dutch player to play 300 times for FC Barcelona.
The midfielder reached the milestone after coming on for Pedri in the 70th minute of Barcelona’s 3-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Aston Villa.
De Jong, 29, joined FC Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, having helped the Dutch club reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals during the 2018/19 season.
He quickly established himself as a regular in Barcelona’s midfield and took on the captain’s armband for the first time in November 2023, when the club faced Rayo Vallecano.
The Netherlands international became FC Barcelona’s record appearance-maker among Dutch players last season, surpassing Ronald Koeman and Philip Cocu.
He moved beyond Cocu’s previous record of 292 appearances in April.
Across his 300 matches for the Catalan club, De Jong has scored 20 goals and provided 29 assists.
