Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to have an operation after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday’s game against Barcelona.
The Georgia international suffered the problem just before the 60-minute mark at the Parc des Princes and had to leave the field.
PSG announced the diagnosis on Wednesday and said the 25-year-old would undergo surgery within the next few days. No expected return date was given by the club.
The loss of Kvaratskhelia represents another major blow to the French champions as they press on with their Champions League campaign without one of their leading figures.
PSG also revealed that attacker Ousmane Dembélé and skipper Marquinhos will miss several weeks after picking up thigh injuries in the Barcelona match.
Defender Nuno Mendes is unavailable as well, meaning head coach Luis Enrique currently has four players injured while PSG aim to preserve their impressive start in the competition.
The French club have won each of their opening three league-phase fixtures.
