Tierra del Fuego competes at Araucanía Games 2026

Tierra del Fuego’s male football team is set to battle for fifth place at the 33rd Juegos Deportivos Binacional de la Araucanía Los Ríos 2026 in Valdivia, Chile, aiming to match a benchmark set a couple of decades ago. As the multi-sport regional games reach their conclusion, delegations from across Chilean and Argentine Patagonia are wrapping up competition in team disciplines, individual track and field events, swimming, and judo.

Football Positioning in Mafil and Valdivia

El fútbol masculino consiguió su tercer triunfo consecutivo en Mafil al superar por 3-1 a Los Lagos. That win earned them a spot in the fifth-place playoff against Ñuble, which previously defeated Magallanes 7-1. Meanwhile, the female football squad fell 1-0 to Bío Bío in San José de la Mariquina and prepared to face Ñuble for seventh place. The tournament’s male championship match features Bío Bío against Chubut, while Río Negro and La Pampa compete for the women’s soccer crown in Valdivia.

Volleyball and Basketball Final Standings

Both Tierra del Fuego volleyball teams finished sixth in their respective zones. The women secured eleventh place overall after a 3-1 victory over Ñuble, with set scores of 25-19, 25-27, 25-12, and 25-21. The male volleyball squad finished twelfth following a tight 2-3 loss to Araucanía, ending with set scores of 22-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20, and 8-15. In basketball, both Fueguino teams finished thirteenth and last in their brackets. The women dropped a 42-52 contest to Aysén, while the men fell 51-58 to Ñuble.

Swimming and Judo Podiums for Tierra del Fuego

Milagros Verón delivered the standout performance for the Fueguino delegation in the pool, claiming bronze medals in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 35.13 seconds and the 50-meter backstroke at 31.78 seconds. Teammate Alejo Salas finished eighth in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke at 32.03 seconds. In overall team scoring, both Fueguino swimming branches finished ninth, accumulating 26 points for the women and 8 points for the men, as Los Lagos claimed the female team title and Río Negro took the male crown.

In combat sports, the male judo team captured a bronze medal in the team competition. The squad notched victories over Aysén, Chubut, and Neuquén, while suffering a defeat against Magallanes. Magallanes ultimately finished first in team judo with 47 points, with Tierra del Fuego placing sixth with 14 points. The female judo delegation competed with only two athletes and did not field a team for that modality.

Track, Field, and Cycling Results Across Los Ríos

Athletics competition brought several finishes for Tierra del Fuego. Juan Bozac took eighth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.87 meters, followed by Nicolás Ravassa in ninth at 37.28 meters. In the 110-meter hurdles final, Lautaro Arrieta finished seventh at 16.31 seconds and Uno De Antueno placed eighth at 16.30 seconds. In the javelin throw, Mercedes Felicioni placed fourteenth at 20.99 meters and Mía Fleita finished sixteenth at 14.48 meters, while Ailén Carbajal recorded no mark in the triple jump.

Ahead of the closing road races—set for 5 kilometers for women and 6 kilometers for men—Tierra del Fuego sits fourth in the male standings with 71 points and ninth in the female standings with 25 points. In cycling, the Fueguino quartets placed eleventh in both the men’s and women’s competitions, which featured 13 male teams and 11 female quartets. Tiziana Pastori finished 22nd among 42 classified female cyclists, and Máximo Pintos placed 33rd out of 50 male riders, with Los Lagos sweeping both cycling titles.

Final Delegation Points and Historical Comparison

Tierra del Fuego is projected to close its participation at Los Ríos 2026 with approximately 75 to 78 total delegation points. That total sits below the 81 points the province accumulated at the 2025 games in La Pampa, where the delegation secured a tenth-place overall finish.
