Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has opened the door to a possible contest for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2027, although he insists he is yet to make a final decision.
The 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner revealed in an interview with Accra-based Onua TV that he remains eligible to vie for the top position in Ghana football and has not ruled out entering the race.
“Don’t be surprised if I also decide to contest for the presidency, even though I have not made a decision yet,” Badu said.
The former Udinese midfielder’s comments come at a time when speculation continues to grow over a potential GFA presidential bid by his former Black Stars teammate André Ayew.
Ayew recently disclosed during an interview with former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel that some football stakeholders had approached him to consider contesting for the position.
However, the experienced forward indicated that he would only address the issue at the appropriate time.
With the 2027 GFA presidential election drawing closer, the possibility of former Black Stars players entering the leadership race could introduce a new dynamic into the contest for the future direction of Ghana football.
Badu, who enjoyed a successful international career with Ghana, has in recent years shown interest in football development and administration, and his potential involvement could add further attention to the upcoming election.
