The Uruguayan defender tops our fan poll following his superb performance against Brighton
Liverpool's Ronald Araujo has been crowned Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 8 after delivering a heroic defensive performance in the Reds' 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
The Uruguayan was immense at right-back, registering 11 defensive contributions, including three tackles and eight clearances. He was equally dominant in his duels, winning 100 per cent of his ground and aerial battles.
Araujo's defensive brilliance was summed up by one outstanding moment. He produced a stunning sliding tackle before, remarkably, clearing the ball with a header while still on the ground to deny Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper.
In attack, Araujo was instrumental in the build-up to Liverpool's first goal, scored when Florian Wirtz's shot was diverted in by Pascal Gross, and he forced Bart Verbruggen to make a fine save.
Araujo earned 35 per cent of the votes from Premier League fans and becomes the first Liverpool player to claim the award this season.
The other nominees this week were Fulham winger Oscar Bobb, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mateus Fernandes, Arsenal's Gabriel, Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson and AFC Bournemouth winger Rayan.
