Former Nigeria Under-20 midfielder Quadri Liameed is reported to be stable after suffering a serious head injury while featuring for CE Sabadell in Spain’s Segunda League.
Liameed was said to have been unconscious for around 30 seconds after an opposing player’s boot struck him in the head during the match.
He is receiving treatment and is due to complete a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within 48 hours as medical staff monitor his recovery.
His father and mentor, Hajji Gafar, said he was reassured by positive updates from the medical staff in Spain and plans to fly out to visit his son within the next 10 days.
“My son is stable now and is expected to take the Buffalo Concussion Bike Test within the next 48 hours. The Spanish medical staff looking after him gave me encouraging information yesterday, and I am grateful and relieved,” he said.
“I am also planning to travel to Spain over the next 10 days to see Quadri myself, stay with him for some time and help him during his recovery.”
Liameed came through Nigeria’s youth-football pathway under Manu Garba, Nduka Ugbade and Ladan Bosso.
He later earned a silver medal with the Flying Eagles at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, with Paul Aigbogun in charge of the side.
The midfielder has been building his professional career in Spain for the past five years.
His former team, 36 Lion Football Club, as well as members of the Lagos and wider Nigerian football communities, have sent messages wishing him a swift recovery.
