When it rains it pours for Manchester United and Cesc Fabregas' response to Como's 4-1 win over Michael Carrick's side has piled more embarrassment on the Premier League club.

United endured their worst defeat of Carrick's reign thus far on Wednesday night when his men fell to defeat to Fabregas' Italian outfit. Nico Paz's brace (2', 57'), Anastasios Douvikas (49') and Jacabo Ramon (76') put the Red Devils to the sword with Joshua Zirkzee grabbing a consolation goal off the bench (90+1').

Bruno Fernandes appeared to turn on Carrick when speaking after the game, questioning his manager's tactics. The Englishman is now under immense pressure and INEOS are reportedly already sounding out potential replacements, including Julian Nagelsmann.

Cesc Fabregas Admission Damning For Man Utd

In a battle of the former Premier League midfielders, Fabregas came out on top, schooling Carrick as Como dominated United throughout. As soon as Paz's opener went in, it looked to be a long night for the English side and the resulting defeat means they are now seven games without a win.

To make matters worse, United are the first English team in history to concede within the opening two minutes of consecutive major European matches. After a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid last week, Lisandro Martinez placed the blame on the higher-ups and appeared to defend Carrick.

Fabregas had been asked about his interest in replacing Carrick before the game and he refused to answer, deeming it to be "not a nice question." The Arsenal and Chelsea legend suggested in his post-match press conference that he told his team to take the brakes off (via Beanymansports):

The Spaniard told reporters: "I told them [Como players] to slow down at 4-0" which is another low for Carrick and his coaching staff. Having been thrown under the bus by Fernandes, Fabregas' admission is more humiliation and speaks volumes of Como's dominance at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium.

Carrick responded to Fernandes calling out his decision to press man for man by refuting those claims, telling reporters: "We actually were half-pressed man-to-man in the second half and then conceded a goal from that. And there's a little bit on whatever system you play, whatever tactics you play, if you don't run, and you don't run forward, and you don't run back, you ain't going to win."

Fernandes started the game in attack, moving from his preferred number 10 position but had little to no impact on the game. Carrick decided to bring him off for Zirkzee in the 66th minute and the Portuguese playmaker's drop in form is another massive concern.

United fans are just as defeated as Carrick's men, sensing deja-vu as another coach looks to be headed for the chopping block under INEOS. And Fabregas' comments have pushed them over the edge, a damning indictment of where the club is currently at.

One supporter made that clear when responding to the Como boss: "This is genuinely worse than losing 7-0" while another wrote United off, "Jesus. We are finished."

A disappointed United fan said "This is the lowest of the lows" while another echoed this "It can't possibly be worse than this. This is actually rock bottom."

Michael Carrick's Stats as Man Utd Manager (Since Replacing Amorim)

Fabregas' comments seem to have done more damage for fans than the result itself as one wrote, "Do you understand how much of a mockery this is!?" and another said "Embarrassing for a club like United."

One supporter added: "Being told to ease off might be the most HUMBLING part of the whole night" and a humbling is exactly what United were handed, second best throughout and toyed with at times by the impressive Paz.

This isn't the first time this season an opposition manager's words have hit home for United's fanbase. Fabian Hurzeler, claimed that the difference between them and his Brighton & Hove Albion side is "structure" after overseeing a 3-2 comeback win in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.
