Morocco has emerged as a potential host of the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, with the North African country reportedly being considered to stage the next edition of the global football competition.
According to Moroccan publication KoraMaroc, Morocco is in a strong position to host the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in 2029.
However, FIFA has yet to officially confirm the host nation, meaning Morocco’s reported candidacy remains unconfirmed.
If the country is selected, it would provide another opportunity for Morocco to showcase its growing capacity to host major international football competitions.
The proposed hosting arrangement would also place the country at the centre of global club football, attracting leading teams, players, officials and supporters from different parts of the world.
Morocco eyes another major football competition
Morocco has continued to feature prominently in discussions surrounding the hosting of major football tournaments, strengthening its profile as a destination for international sporting events.
Hosting the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup would further raise the country’s standing in world football and provide an opportunity to demonstrate its organisational capabilities on a global stage.
The competition brings together leading clubs from different confederations, offering them the opportunity to compete for the title of world champions.
However, the details of Morocco’s reported interest, including the proposed venues and preparations for the tournament, have not been officially confirmed.
Moroccan league champions could represent country
According to the report, the champions of Morocco’s domestic league in the 2028-2029 season are expected to represent the host country at the competition if the proposed arrangement is adopted.
Such participation would give the domestic champions an opportunity to compete against some of the world’s leading clubs.
Nevertheless, the qualification arrangements for the 2029 edition, including the status of the host nation’s representative, remain subject to official confirmation.
Tournament expected to feature 48 teams
The 2029 edition is expected to feature an expanded 48-team format, which would mark another major development in the competition’s history.
The previous edition, hosted by the United States, featured 32 teams, marking the first time the FIFA Club World Cup was staged under the expanded format introduced for the 2025 tournament.
A further increase to 48 participating teams would broaden representation from different continental confederations and potentially create more opportunities for clubs around the world.
However, the proposed expansion would also raise questions about the competition’s schedule, player workload and the arrangements required to accommodate the additional teams.
FIFA yet to make official announcement
Despite the reports linking Morocco to the tournament, FIFA has not officially announced the host nation for the 2029 edition.
The country’s potential selection, the proposed 48-team format and the qualification arrangements will therefore require further clarification from the world football governing body.
Until an official announcement is made, Morocco’s emergence as a possible host remains a developing story.
