Ulrich was treated by paramedics for an hour on the football field before being rushed to hospital.

The safety went down following a worrying helmet-to-helmet collision on October 10.

And a coroner’s report revealed Ulrich suffered a subdural hematoma, where blood collects between layers of the brain.

It comes after Southern Nazarene initially described the youngster’s cause of death as a traumatic brain injury.

In a statement posted on social media, SNU Athletics said: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our SNU football player, Tyler Ulrich.

“This loss is deeply felt across our campus. Our hearts are with his family, friends, team-mates, and everyone who knew him.

“We ask that you join us in lifting them up in prayer.”

Ulrich’s death was first confirmed by his father, Mark, who wrote on Facebook: “Our family is truly blessed to receive all the love and prayers for our young Tyler, and we are ever grateful.

“But as much support and love that was given, it is with a heavy heart I am writing to say the Lord called Tyler this morning at 11.13am.

“Tyler will join many of our loved ones that have passed. Tyler led a life full of faith, passion and being a BEAST on the football field!!! He will be remembered always.”

Southern Nazarene finished the clash with Ouachita Baptist, which they lost 49-14, but their next fixture against Southwestern Oklahoma State was called off.

Ulrich’s university held a campuswide prayer as fellow students paid their respects following his passing.

The rising star, who had dreams of reaching the NFL, made 36 tackles for Southern Nazarene this season.

Ulrich was into his third season on the university’s books and started 16 of the 20 games he featured in.

Southern Nazarene head coach Dustin Hada told ESPN: “Tyler was an outstanding football player and a tremendous man of faith.

“He was a great example of quiet strength and a leader in our locker room for sure.”

The National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research claim Ulrich is the second football player to die from a traumatic brain injury in the last nine years.

William Jewell College running back MicahJo Barnett collapsed on the sideline and later passed away at the age of 20 in August.
