Liverpool “could be tempted” to sign £100m star who’s “one of the best in the world”

Liverpool “could be tempted” to make a big-money move for Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde, according to a big claim from former scout Mick Brown.

The Uruguayan is a fantastic player who can thrive in both midfield and at right-back, proving to be a great servant for Madrid under various managers.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown talked up the idea of Liverpool making a move for Valverde, as they continue to search for squad depth in key areas:

“Liverpool need midfielders and they also need somebody who can fill in at right-back. When we talk about players like that, the one who always comes to mind is Federico Valverde from Real Madrid, I think he is comfortably one of the best in the world in his position.

“He’s certainly one of my favourite players, because he always does whatever job is asked of him to a high level, never lets his side down, and is always one of their most impressive players.

“Obviously it wouldn’t be easy to sign him from Real Madrid, but we know Liverpool have spent big before, and they could be tempted to make a big move for him as well. If there’s any player in the world who you’d want to go and spend £100million on, Valverde should be that player, he would be a dream signing for Liverpool.

“On the other hand, of course, Real Madrid aren’t going to let him go, so they might just say ‘no chance, hands off’, and then it becomes impossible. But if there is any hint that they might entertain offers, Liverpool should be all over it, because he would be the immediate solution to all of their biggest problems.”

Could Liverpool actually sign Federico Valverde?

Valverde is a world-class footballer, both in terms of technical ability and work ethic, with few players more consistent and important at Madrid, despite them having so many superstars.

Unfortunately, though, it is tough to see Liverpool being able to prise the 28-year-old away from Spain, given his influence under Jose Mourinho, and the fact that he appears to be happy there as captain.

There also wouldn’t be much sell-on value, given Valverde’s age, so for all his many qualities, this is a potential £100m transfer that should be avoided by Liverpool, and it is extremely hard to see it happening anyway.
