German champions Bayern Munich and Dutch powerhouse Ajax will face off in a high-profile friendly during the grand opening of the Raila Odinga Talanta Stadium on January 5, 2027, President William Ruto announced.

Speaking during a special address on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, President Ruto revealed that the landmark fixture will be funded by the private sector, bringing international stars like Harry Kane to Nairobi.

“Ladies and gentlemen, come January 2027, we will open this stadium with a historic match between FC Bayern and Ajax,” President Ruto stated.

The match coincides with the winter break for both the German Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivisie. Bundesliga clubs will begin their mid-season break on December 20, 2026, before resuming competitive fixtures on January 8, 2027. Similarly, the Eredivisie pauses on December 20, 2026, and returns to action on January 9, 2027, allowing both teams to travel to Kenya for the exhibition game.
