Magesi, City bag maximum points, Real Native stumble

Following the latest round of action in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend, Magesi solidified their status as the team to beat in South Africa’s first division, while Cape Town City bagged their third victory on the bounce.

Magesi extended their winning streak to two matches in the league this weekend owing to a 2-1 win over Gomora United at home on Saturday afternoon.

The table toppers thus took their tally to 20 points after eight matches by building on their 3-1 win over Venda Football Academy last week. In turn, Magesi maintained their three-point gap over Cape Town City, who bagged maximum points over Orbit College on Friday evening.

City have now secured a three-peat of victories over The Bees, Gomora United and Orbit as they kept up with the pace at the top of the pile as they seek to secure a position in the promotion places at the end of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Real Native could only manage a 1-1 draw with Highbury at home on Friday afternoon as they failed to add to their 1-0 win over The Bees during matchday seven.

As it stands, Real Native are third on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table after noting 16 points from eight matches played so far. With promotion on the cards, Real Native are four points from the top and one point behind second-placed Cape Town City.

Elsewhere, Venda Football Academy remain in search of their first win of the season following their narrow 1-0 loss to Hungry Lions on Saturday.

Venda currently sit at the root of the table in 16th position after noting just one point for the entire campaign while their losing streak stretched to six matches as they battle to gather momentum during the early parts of the campaign.

Lerumo Lions were among the biggest winners in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend following their 3-0 away win over Leicesterford City on Saturday. With three points in the bag, Lerumo Lions are now unbeaten in their last three matches, a run that includes back-to-back wins in their last two fixtures.
