Barcelona defender Xavi Espart is expected to miss around seven weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain during the 2-1 El Clasico defeat by Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old was forced off shortly after the half-hour mark, despite attempting to continue after being caught on the ankle by Aurelien Tchouameni 10 minutes into the match.
Tests carried out this morning confirmed the extent of the injury, with Espart subsequently withdrawn by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.
Espart’s injury added to a difficult evening for Barcelona, whose 100% start to the 2026/27 LaLiga season was ended by two goals from Kylian Mbappe.
The La Masia graduate had made a positive impression in the opening games of the campaign, providing cover at both full-back positions.
His recovery timeline means there is a possibility Espart will not play again this year, with LaLiga scheduled to enter its mid-season break in December.
