Athletic Heat has strengthened its arrangements for the participation of young competitors at its 10th Anniversary Meet with the appointment of renowned athletics coach Felix Onoriode as chaperone for the U-11 and U-15 categories.
The November 7 event, which will take place at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos, will provide a platform for athletes across different age groups and disciplines to display their abilities as Athletic Heat celebrates a decade of sporting impact.
Onoriode’s appointment brings valuable coaching expertise and youth development experience into the event, with particular attention to ensuring that the youngest participants receive the necessary support and supervision throughout the competition.
The experienced coach is the Secretary General of the Athletics Coaches Association of Nigeria (ACAN) and heads the Coach Felix Academics and Sports Foundation in Kaduna.
He also serves on the Monitoring Team of the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) and holds World Athletics coaching certification and a licence.
His involvement in Nigerian athletics extends beyond domestic competitions. In 2025, he led Team Nigeria Athletics at the inaugural Africa Schools Games in Algeria before taking up sprint coaching responsibilities at the 4th Africa Youth Games in Angola.
These assignments reflect his experience working with young athletes in competitive environments and his contribution to preparing emerging talents for higher levels of competition.
Athletic Heat, securing an experienced coach to oversee its youngest participants reinforces the importance of creating an environment where promising athletes can compete, learn and develop with the right guidance.
The anniversary meet is expected to celebrate the initiative’s journey over the past decade while maintaining a focus on the future of Nigerian athletics. Giving young competitors the opportunity to participate in a well supported competition remains an important part of that broader objective.
