The 21 most exciting young footballers including Man Utd wonderkid

The youngest is just 16 years old

Things have rarely been more exciting when it comes to young footballers. Superstars are emerging earlier and earlier, some of them before they even leave school. We've seen 15-year-olds handed Premier League minutes and teenagers challenging for the Ballon d'Or, even as their peers in their 30s continue to thrive and show us we might need to rethink upper and lower limits of what's possible in the game. And there are plenty of other up-and-comers ready to step into the shoes of the current crop of young starlets.

We have taken a look at some of those superstars-in-the-making, as well as those who can already call themselves superstars at a young age. Express Sport's list here comprises 21 players aged 21 or under, all of whom have made their mark at European clubs. This isn't a definitive list - we're sure you can point to some who you think deserve a spot on the list. Manchester City v AEK Athens - UEFA Champions League 2026/27 League Phase MD3
Morocco midfielder Bouaddi has yet to hit top gear for Manchester City but there's a reason they broke the bank for him. There's also a reason the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain were in the mix, even before his star turn against Brazil at the World Cup. (Image: Getty)
Fc Barcelona V Real Madrid Cf - Laliga Ea Sports
Cubarsi has been part of the Barcelona picture for so long that it's easy to forget he's still only 19. The centre-back plays like a far more experienced player and it's scary to think he can get even better. (Image: Getty)
FC Barcelona v Real Madrid - LaLiga EA Sports 2026/27
There's a reason why Diomande was one of the world's most in-demand players this summer. The £120million Ivorian's rise has been a rapid one but a goal or assist every 94 minutes this term shows he has the goods at the age of just 19. (Image: Getty)
Paris Saint-Germain v Olympique Lyonnais - Ligue 1 McDonald's 2026/27
There aren't too many clubs who could survive losing Bradley Barcola over the summer. However, there aren't many who have also have a player of Doue's quality. One of the most entertaining wide forwards in the world blew hot and cold at the World Cup but has already got back up to speed in PSG colours. (Image: Getty)
