UEMC Baloncesto Valladolid enters Saturday’s Segunda FEB fixture at Pisuerga seeking a victory after falling 84-79 to Cáceres Patrimonio de la Humanidad, a setback head coach David Barrio attributed to costly lapses in focus despite holding statistical advantages in field goal attempts, rebounding, and assists.

Barrio Confronts Statistical Reality After Cáceres Loss

The 84-79 defeat in Cáceres marked the second loss for Valladolid following a three-game winning streak that included league victories over C.B Getafe and IREN Badajoz alongside a Copa España triumph against Partizan de Fuenlabrada. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Barrio expressed frustration over the manner of the defeat rather than the venue itself, noting that his squad generated 20 more field goal attempts than their hosts while also dominating the boards and winning the turnover battle.

The defeat leaves Valladolid with a 2-2 record, placing them level with Saturday’s opponents in the league standings. Barrio stressed that the result places a heavy responsibility on the squad to secure victories in their upcoming consecutive home fixtures at Pisuerga.

Algeciras Brings Familiarity and Experience to Pisuerga

C.B. Algeciras competes in Segunda FEB after recovering its status the previous course and has installed Nacho Pastor as head coach. The Andalusian club opted for continuity by retaining eight players from their promotion-winning campaign, creating a roster rich in FEB competition experience.

The backcourt features team captain Berni García, entering his fourth season with the club, alongside Bernard Edokpayi, who paces the Algeciras offense with a team-high 11.5 points per contest. Returning perimeter threats Romar Reid and Eugenio Egea provide additional stability, while frontcourt contributor Dejan Ilincic anchors the interior alongside Roy Mendes, who has converted 90 percent of his two-point attempts.

Algeciras also bolstered its roster with notable newcomers, including forward David Ramírez, who averages 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and veteran guard Alo Marín, bringing 18 seasons of FEB competition experience to the lineup. American stretch forward Trey Fields arrived from the NCAA ranks to chip in 9.3 points per contest.

Son un equipo recién ascendido que ya ha estado muchos años en la categoría, Barrio noted regarding the opponent’s blend of retained veterans and new additions. Es un equipo que tira mucho de tres, que tiene jugadores que son interesantes a nivel físico.

Full Fitness and the Search for 40-Minute Consistency

On the injury front, Barrio confirmed that Valladolid will have its complete roster available for the second week. Forward Jorge continues a measured return to full training minutes, while Drenin has recovered fully from an ankle issue, allowing the coaching staff to navigate the week without physical setbacks following a demanding stretch of three games in seven days.

Addressing the team’s periodic offensive lulls and perimeter shooting inconsistencies, Barrio placed the struggles within the context of an ongoing team construction process in October.

Si no tuviéramos alguna pequeña desconexión, no estaríamos en Segunda FEB, Barrio said. Estamos en proceso de construcción, todos los equipos estamos teniendo ese tipo de bajones… Todavía nos queda mucho para poder ser constantes los 40 minutos, que es lo que nos gustaría.
