Manchester United have reportedly decided to keep Michael Carrick in charge for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth despite their humiliating defeat against Como.
According to The Standard, Carrick will conduct Friday’s press conference and lead training as the club prepares for its next fixture.
United suffered a damaging 4-1 defeat in Italy, extending their winless run to seven matches across all competitions and increasing pressure.
Captain Bruno Fernandes reportedly criticised Carrick’s tactics following the disappointing performance, intensifying concerns about unrest within the dressing room.
Despite mounting criticism, United are not currently planning to dismiss Carrick, although his position remains under serious scrutiny.
Reports suggest Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann are potential candidates should the club eventually decide to replace their manager.
United finished third last season under Carrick, securing Champions League qualification and raising expectations ahead of the current campaign.
However, their performances have fallen well short of expectations following an underwhelming summer transfer window and a disappointing start.
United currently sit twentieth in the Champions League standings and thirteenth in the Premier League table, increasing pressure on Carrick.
The players received Thursday off after returning from Italy but are expected to resume preparations under Carrick on Friday.
Sunday’s Bournemouth fixture could prove crucial, with another disappointing result potentially bringing his Manchester United tenure closer to an end.
For now, Carrick retains the club’s backing, but he must deliver improved performances and results to ease growing concerns surrounding his future.
