Mbappé hits 100 Real Madrid goals in El Clásico win

Kylian Mbappé marked another major milestone in his Real Madrid career on Sunday, scoring twice to reach 100 goals for the Spanish giants in just 116 appearances as they defeated Barcelona 2-1 in a thrilling El Clásico at Spotify Camp Nou.

The France captain delivered when it mattered most, opening the scoring in the 41st minute before netting the decisive goal in the 87th minute to secure three valuable points for Real Madrid and end Barcelona’s perfect start to the La Liga season. Blueprint reports

Barcelona captain Raphinha had restored parity in the 61st minute after collecting a pass from Pedri, but Mbappé struck again late in the contest to hand Madrid a victory that reduced the gap between the fierce rivals at the top of the table.

Beyond the result, the occasion belonged to Mbappé, whose brace took his Real Madrid tally to a century and further strengthened his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in world football.

According to Real Madrid, his 100 goals comprise 67 in La Liga, 25 in the UEFA Champions League, four in the Copa del Rey, two in the FIFA Club World Cup, one in the UEFA Super Cup and one in the Spanish Super Cup.

The milestone represents a remarkable return for a player who arrived in the Spanish capital in 2024 after seven seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, where he had already established himself as one of Europe’s most feared attackers.

From PSG superstar to Real Madrid’s leading marksman

Mbappé joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. He subsequently signed a five-year deal and was officially presented as a Madrid player on July 16, 2024.

His arrival ended years of speculation about a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, with the forward fulfilling a long-standing ambition to play for the club he supported while growing up.

Before leaving PSG, Mbappé had scored 256 goals in 308 appearances across all competitions, making him the French club’s all-time leading scorer. He also won six Ligue 1 titles and collected 15 trophies during his spell in Paris.

Despite his remarkable individual achievements and domestic success with PSG, the UEFA Champions League remained an elusive prize. His closest opportunity came during the 2019-20 season, when the French club reached the final but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

Mbappé’s departure therefore marked the beginning of a new chapter, with the expectation that his goals would help Real Madrid sustain their domestic and European ambitions.

He made an immediate impact, scoring on his competitive debut in the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta on August 14, 2024, as Madrid won 2-0 to claim the trophy.

That goal provided an early indication of what was to come, as the Frenchman quickly adapted to life in Spanish football and became a central figure in Madrid’s attack.

A century of goals in 116 appearances

Mbappé’s 100-goal landmark against Barcelona reflects his consistency since arriving in Spain.

Real Madrid’s figures show that he scored 44 goals in his first season with the club, followed by 42 in the subsequent campaign. His 14 goals in the ongoing season brought the cumulative total to 100 by October 25, 2026.

His scoring record has been particularly impressive in La Liga and the Champions League, where he has combined pace, movement and clinical finishing to trouble opposing defences.

The 25 Champions League goals in his Madrid tally underline his continued influence in Europe’s premier club competition, while his 67 league goals demonstrate the consistency required to compete across a demanding domestic campaign.

Mbappé also finished as La Liga’s leading scorer in his debut season, registering 31 goals in 34 league appearances. He collected the European Golden Shoe and the Pichichi Trophy, awarded to La Liga’s top scorer, as individual recognition followed his move from France.

His latest achievement places him among the club’s outstanding modern attacking performers, although his longer-term legacy will also be measured by the trophies Madrid win during his time at the Bernabéu.

Barcelona remain one of his favourite opponents

Mbappé’s performance against Barcelona added to a scoring record that stretches back to his PSG days.

He has now scored 14 goals in 11 appearances against Barcelona across all competitions, including eight goals in seven El Clásico appearances for Real Madrid.

His record against the Catalan club first attracted widespread attention during PSG’s 4-1 victory at Camp Nou in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie in February 2021.

Mbappé scored a memorable hat-trick that night, becoming the principal figure in a result that stunned Barcelona and demonstrated his ability to deliver on one of football’s biggest stages.

His latest brace against Barcelona further enhanced those numbers. The opening goal in the 41st minute came after a fortunate deflection off defender Gerard Martín, while his second was the product of a rapid Madrid counterattack.

Jude Bellingham helped initiate the decisive move before substitute Eduardo Camavinga advanced down the right and delivered the ball for Mbappé to finish.

The Frenchman therefore combined opportunism with sharp attacking movement to decide a contest that had threatened to end in a draw.

His record at Camp Nou is also notable: he has scored on both of his appearances there, first for PSG in 2021 and now for Real Madrid. He has consequently avoided defeat in those two visits, although that statistic relates specifically to his appearances at the venue rather than every match he has played against Barcelona.

Real Madrid tighten the title race

The victory was important beyond Mbappé’s personal milestone.

Barcelona entered the contest seeking a tenth consecutive league victory at the start of the season, but Madrid ended that run with a disciplined performance and clinical finishing.

Raphinha’s equaliser briefly gave the hosts renewed hope, but Madrid continued to threaten on the counterattack before Mbappé delivered the decisive blow.

The result left Barcelona on 27 points after 10 matches, with Real Madrid moving to 24 points, three behind their rivals. Atlético Madrid remained between them in the standings.

For Mbappé, the evening was another demonstration of his importance to Madrid’s title challenge. His ability to turn chances into goals has provided the club with a reliable attacking outlet, particularly in high-profile matches where the margin between victory and defeat can be narrow.

The 100-goal milestone also strengthens the expectations surrounding the forward. Having arrived in Madrid amid enormous anticipation, he has already delivered a significant individual return while continuing to pursue the major trophies that define the club’s ambitions.

With the season still unfolding, Mbappé’s challenge will be to maintain that output, help Madrid compete for La Liga and European honours, and build on a career that has already brought him domestic success in France, international recognition with Les Bleus and a growing collection of records in Spain.

At Camp Nou, the Frenchman did more than score twice in a famous rivalry. He reached a century of Madrid goals, extended his remarkable record against Barcelona and supplied the decisive moment in a victory that could prove significant in the developing title race.
