FIFA has approved the appointment of a Normalisation Committee to manage the affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until fresh elections are held to produce a new Executive Committee, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The decision was taken on Thursday by the Bureau of the FIFA Council, with the proposed committee expected to oversee the federation’s administration during the transition period.
In a letter signed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, FIFA stated that the committee would consist of an appropriate number of members to be appointed jointly by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as soon as possible.
The letter also stated that the committee would remain in office until it had completed its assigned responsibilities, with its tenure ending no later than May 31, 2027.
FIFA further clarified that members of the Normalisation Committee would not be eligible to contest any position in the forthcoming NFF elections.
Until the committee is formally appointed, the NFF Secretariat will continue to manage the federation’s daily administrative activities and oversee football operations in the country.
The arrangement is expected to provide an interim structure for the NFF while preparations are made for fresh elections to produce a new Executive Committee in accordance with the applicable requirements.
