Zimbabwe’s 2026/27 domestic cricket season gets underway this Friday, with silverware up for grabs and a slice of history awaiting at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls.

Pro50 Championship holders Southern Rocks begin their title defence against Eagles at Masvingo Sports Club, while Mountaineers host Tuskers at Mutare Sports Club on the opening day.

The teams meet again at the same venues on Sunday, with Rhinos sitting out the opening round.

Those encounters launch a campaign that will bring one-day and first-class cricket to grounds across the country, including the first competitive test run for Zimbabwe’s newest stadium.

Now entering the final phase of construction, Mosi-oa-Tunya is scheduled to host its first-ever cricket match on 20 November, when Rocks face Tuskers in the Pro50 Championship, before the sides meet again there two days later.

The domestic fixtures will serve as an initial test run for the venue as work continues towards its targeted completion in mid-2027, ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later that year.

For a stadium taking shape in one of the world’s most celebrated tourist destinations, the arrival of competitive cricket will mark a significant milestone on the road to becoming an international venue.

Before that historic first ball is bowled, however, the five domestic sides have plenty of business to attend to.

Following the opening weekend, Rhinos launch their Pro50 Championship campaign on 30 October when they host Mountaineers at Kwekwe Sports Club, with the teams meeting again on 1 November.

Eagles and Tuskers face each other on the same dates at Takashinga Cricket Club.

The November programme gathers pace with Mountaineers hosting Rocks in Mutare and Tuskers meeting Rhinos at Bulawayo Athletic Club on 6 and 8 November.

Eagles then take on Mountaineers at Prince Edward and Rocks host Rhinos in Masvingo on 13 and 15 November, before the final round of league fixtures brings the spotlight to Victoria Falls.

Alongside the Rocks-Tuskers encounters at Mosi-oa-Tunya on 20 and 22 November, Rhinos will face Eagles at Kwekwe Sports Club.

The Pro50 Championship final is scheduled for 29 November, with the venue still to be confirmed.

Attention will then turn to the longer format as the Logan Cup gets underway.

Mountaineers face Tuskers at Queens Sports Club, while Eagles meet Rocks at Harare Sports Club in the opening four-day matches, running from 5 to 8 December.

Rhinos have the first-round bye.

Mosi-oa-Tunya’s trial programme will extend to first-class cricket when it hosts its first Logan Cup match from 13 to 16 December, with Mountaineers taking on Rhinos.

Tuskers and Eagles will meet at Bulawayo Athletic Club over the same period, completing the scheduled fixtures before the Christmas break.

The domestic season will resume after the festive interval.
