Ghana Premier League matchday 8 results

Medeama SC returned to the top of the Ghana Premier League after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium on Sunday, while Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by FC AshantiGold 04 in the Ashanti Derby.

Nana Kofi Babil scored the decisive goal in the 81st minute to give Medeama all three points and help the defending champions bounce back from their first defeat of the season against FC Samartex.

The Mauve and Yellow are now level on points with Hearts of Oak but sit above the Phobians on goal difference.

At the Len Clay Stadium, Asante Kotoko were unable to claim victory against AshantiGold in an entertaining derby.

AshantiGold took the lead in the 41st minute through a deflected long-range effort from Boateng. Patrick Asiedu restored parity for Kotoko with a superb free-kick in the 63rd minute.

Neither side managed to find a winner, leaving the Porcupine Warriors still searching for their first away victory of the campaign.

Port City FC recorded one of the weekend’s notable results, beating Karela United 2-1 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

Owusu Ansah put Port City ahead in the 77th minute, but Iddi Mahfuz equalised for Karela with three minutes of normal time remaining. Ansah struck again in the 89th minute to complete his brace and secure the visitors’ second away win of the season.

The victory lifted the newly promoted side to third place, while Karela suffered their second consecutive defeat.

Bibiani GoldStars also claimed a late victory, beating Heart of Lions 2-1 at Dun’s Park.

Kwame Opoku gave GoldStars the lead after missing an earlier penalty, but Stephen Afoakwa equalised late for Heart of Lions. Godfred John Arthur then scored in the final minute to secure all three points for the hosts.

Bechem United returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over Debibi United at Nana Gyeabour Park.

Isaiah Nyarko opened the scoring before Kelvin Appiah netted twice in the second half to complete the win. The result moved Bechem into sixth place, while Debibi dropped into the bottom three.

Dreams FC’s difficult run continued as they suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Vision FC at the Tuba Astro Turf.

Sherif Mohammed Iddrisu scored twice, while Setsifia Aqetey added another goal to give Vision a commanding lead in the first half. An own goal by Ibrahim Larbi offered Dreams a consolation, but it was not enough to prevent another defeat.

The result left Dreams rooted to the bottom of the table, while Vision ended their six-match winless run and climbed out of the relegation zone.

Berekum Chelsea and FC Samartex played out a goalless draw at the Golden City Park, ending Chelsea’s two-match winning streak.

Samartex, who had beaten Medeama the previous weekend, picked up another valuable point to extend their unbeaten run against the Bibires.

Swedru All Blacks maintained their impressive form with a 2-1 away win over Young Apostles at the Wenchi Stadium.

William Dankwah opened the scoring in the 55th minute before Godfred Yartey doubled the visitors’ lead in the 82nd minute. Mumuni Iliasu pulled one back for Young Apostles late in the game, but All Blacks held on to claim their third consecutive victory.

The win moved Swedru All Blacks into fifth place with 14 points, while Young Apostles slipped into the relegation zone.
