Man City Face New Charges as Premier League Considers Further Investigation

Manchester City could face new charges over their financial conduct after 2018, according to reports on November 4, 2026.

According to a report by journalist Miguel Delaney for The Independent, some Premier League executives are pushing for City to be investigated for seasons since 2018 after the club was found guilty of 114 charges.

The Premier League initially referred Manchester City to an independent commission at the start of 2023 after a four-year probe into alleged conduct between 2009 and 2018. The club was accused of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations and failing to comply with the process.

After a six-week hearing at the end of 2024, the independent commission found Manchester City guilty on almost all charges. The report was published by Football365 on November 4, 2026. Manchester City continue to insist on their innocence and have appealed the decision.

According to Football365, the possible punishments if they cannot prove innocence include a fine, transfer ban, points deduction, expulsion or being stripped of Premier League titles.

Now, according to The Independent, an increasing number of executives have raised questions about whether City's inflated sponsorship deals stopped in 2018, despite commercial income staying at the same level. The report says this represents a potential dilemma for the Premier League and its clubs.

The prospect of further investigation comes as City prepare for Champions League action against RB Leipzig on November 5.

Manchester City have not commented on the new reports. The club has always denied wrongdoing and says it has irrefutable evidence to clear its name.

The Premier League has also not officially commented on whether new charges will be brought. Any new investigation would require a separate referral to an independent commission.
